The 2012 International Rally of Whangarei is the first round of the 2012 FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship as well as Round 1 of the FIA Pacific Cup and Round 1of the New Zealand Rally Championship.

It will take place from 30 March to 1 April with the rally based in Whangarei which is approximately three hours drive north of Auckland. The Rally Headquarters and Media Centre are based at the Quayside Town Basin.

The media is an integral part of the event's success and are invited to apply for accreditation to ensure access to key locations on-event. Approval is given to bona fide members of the media who fulfil and abide by the accreditation requirements of participation and safety.

If you have not applied for accreditation with the International Rally of Whangarei before, you are also required to submit a copy of your publication showing previous rally articles, an electronic copy of your broadcast programme showing rally coverage, or five (5) examples of your photographic work demonstrating your experience in a rallying environment.

The completed application form needs to be returned by postal mail by Friday 16 March 2012 to: MEDIA ACCREDITATION, RALLY WHANGAREI, PO BOX 62-021, SYLVIA PARK, AUCKLAND 1644, NEW ZEALAND.  Or emailed in complete (preferably PDF) format to info@rallywhangarei.co.nz

Please allow time for posting and the collation of the information needed to support this FIA-specified accreditation process.

Editors and producers are asked to conform to the following principles to ensure that media accreditation is restricted to professional journalists and photographers:

  1. That the publication is on sale to the public, the photographic agency supplies images to media organisations on a commercial basis, or the organisation broadcasts rally news and results to the public on a regular basis;
  2. Write and enclose a letter from the editor/producer on your organisation's official letterhead to support  the journalist's or photographer's application;
  3. Also enclose an outline of the coverage planned to provide for this 2012 FIA APRC event, assuming accreditation is granted;
  4. Acknowledge that the event's official name is the International Rally of Whangarei and confirm that the full event title will be used in the actual event coverage at least once in every published or broadcast item.

Please note: TV and radio media applications also need FIA APRC secretariat approval. This process will be handled by the  International Rally of Whangarei media staff, but applicants must ensure their media accreditation form is submitted on time. If applications are late, no guarantees can be made regarding the timely approval of accreditation.

Team or sponsor PR representatives and photographers can be accredited, but may have specified restrictions subject to the event officials' requirements in terms of desk space, internet availability and access to press conferences and rally photographer areas.
