Community groups benefit from International Rally of Whangarei

Next week’s International Rally of Whangarei, running 2 to 4 July, provides a significant financial boost to a co-operative of local community groups around the rural township of Maungaturoto and the Lions Clubs of the Whangarei district.

Rising Stars have plenty to play for at Whangarei

Rally New Zealand’s Rising Stars award winners all have plenty to play for when the third round of the Vantage New Zealand Rally Championship (NZRC), the International Rally of Whangarei, takes place from 2 to 4 July.

Australian Reeves takes on FIA Pacific Cup in Whangarei

Young Australian rally driver Brendan Reeves is up against two of the Asia Pacific region’s most experienced rally drivers in one of the subsidiary competitions being contested during July’s International Rally of Whangarei.

Whangarei’s own International Rally of Whangarei competitor grateful for NorthTec’s support

Former NorthTec automotive student and International Rally of Whangarei competitor Ben Jagger brought his Subaru rally car to NorthTec’s Future Trades campus recently to acknowledge the support of NorthTec boatbuilding tutor Roger Rhodes.

The Seed Force sponsored car has just been almost completely rebuilt in preparation for the upcoming International Rally of Whangarei with Roger and one of his students making an underbody protection pan out of Kevlar for the vehicle.

McRae keen to tackle International Rally of Whangarei

One of the world’s best-known rally drivers, Alister McRae, is looking forward getting started in the International Rally of Whangarei on 2 July.

Community fun all part of International Rally of Whangarei

The rally action on roads around the Whangarei and Kaipara regions is the main focus of this year’s International Rally of Whangarei, running from 2 to 4 July, but an international event of this nature offers the region’s communities numerous opportunities for fun and involvement.

The rally’s colouring competition for school-age children remains a hugely popular activity with three age-group winners enjoying a ride to school in a rally car.

Willard Martin, chairman of the International Rally of Whangarei organising committee, says hundreds of children enter the competition, which sees the three winners able to choose two friends to join them for a ride to school in a convoy of rally cars on the morning of Friday 2 July.
