New Roads and More Rallying Time Announced for 2025 International Rally of Whangārei

Whangārei, New Zealand – [29/07/2025] — Rally fans and competitors alike can look forward to an exhilarating edition of the 2025 International Rally of Whangārei, with organisers revealing a refreshed route packed with brand-new stages, extended competitive kilometres, and a reimagined rally experience through Northland’s legendary gravel roads.

Set to take place on 8th & 9th November, the 2025 rally route has been significantly upgraded to include over 280km of competitive driving, the longest in recent years, offering more time on stage and more excitement for crews and fans. New roads near Dargaville, Ruawai, and east toward Paparoa bring fresh challenges, technical complexity, and a return to some of the region’s most iconic rallying terrain.

“This year, we’ve listened to drivers, fans, and teams – the message was clear: more rally, more variety, and more time on the stages,” said Simon Bell, Rally Director. “We’re proud to deliver a route that features new sections never before used in this event, while preserving the flow and rhythm that makes Whangārei a favourite.”

Highlights of the 2025 Rally Route:

  • More than 280km of competitive stages, over two days of action-packed stages
  • Many returning special stages, showcasing untapped Northland gravel roads
  • A reworked Saturday leg with longer loops and new roads
  • A changed Pohe Island on Saturday night
  • Fan-friendly spectator zones with improved access and viewing points
  • The Sunday legs goes south to some amazing old RNZ roads, not used for many years.

The International Rally of Whangārei continues to serve as a key round Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship, attracting top-tier national and international talent. For 2025 it is the final round with a lot of points on offer for the class champions.

“We’re expecting a fierce battle this year in all the classes,” said Simon Bell. “With the new stages, the rally becomes less predictable, more demanding, and ultimately more rewarding.”

The event also brings significant economic and tourism benefits to the Northland regions, drawing spectators and teams, and showcasing the beauty of the Whangārei & Kaipara coastlines, forests, and rural heartlands.

Whether you’re a lifelong rally fan or a first-time visitor, the 2025 International Rally of Whangārei promises a high-octane celebration of motorsport in one of New Zealand’s most stunning rally backdrops.

A huge thanks must go to the Whangarei District Council and Kaipara District council. Without their support our event would not have access to these amazing roads. The event team are excited to work with the Whangārei District Council for the 18th year, with amazing support from Mayor Vince Cocurullo and his Whangārei events team.

With the roads now in for road closure, the hard work begins for the Rally New Zealand team.
